The Air Has Opinions; I Am Filing Them

The air today is the color of an old photograph and smells like something that isn’t finished burning.

The doggy door has been mostly closed since midmorning. This is information. I have filed it accordingly. The sun patch came through the glass door on schedule, moved across the floor on schedule, and left on schedule. Inside, everything was as it should be. Outside was a different arrangement entirely.

33°C and the sky the particular shade of amber that suggests the mountains have opinions. Dad stayed at the desk longer than usual. I stayed near the desk longer than usual. This is not a coincidence. It is a system.

I thought briefly about the porch. I thought briefly about the yard. I chose the studio sofa. Some days the world makes your decisions for you, and the only sophisticated response is to accept them, curl up, and wait for the air to clear.

It will clear.
